The Power of Posters

As you walk through our school, the local mall or even when you drive through road construction, you will see posters of all shapes and sizes with many different messages, images, colours and designs.  The various elements of posters are key to attracting the reader and will hopefully help the reader to understand the message that is being conveyed.

During the past month, the grade three classes have been learning about the characteristics and uses of posters. We began with a poster tour of the school and examined some posters online.  We determined that posters have different uses. They can give us information about an upcoming event, convince us to buy a product or use a service, teach us something, try to change our attitudes or beliefs or are simply for enjoyment. A successful poster must tell a story quickly and be eye catching!

Our next task was to create our own posters.  We felt there was a need in the school to educate our fellow students about ways to prevent the spread of the flu.  We visited a couple of reliable websites to find this information.  Using the school's digital cameras, each student created a scene to photograph and designed a poster using this photograph.  Below you will see our tips for preventing the spread of the flu!  We hope you stay healthy this flu season!
